Our Children’s House at Children’s Health

Our Children’s House offers unique feeding programs to help children to overcome physical and behavioral difficulties at mealtime. With an interdisciplinary approach to a child’s feeding treatment, Our Children’s House brings together on-site professionals in a variety of specialties; including speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, psychologist and registered dietician. Each child undergoes a team evaluation of oral-motor skills, sensorimotor skills, behavioral needs and nutritional needs.  In additional a medical evaluation by a gastroenterologist can address any digestive system issues. Based on the assessment results, we develop a treatment plan tailored to each child’s unique needs.

The intensive feeding programs at Our Children’s House provide intensive therapy and structured meal times for children with chronic feeding difficulties, as well as caregiver training and education.  Our intensive feeding programs offer: daily speech therapy to address oral-motor, oral-sensory and swallowing difficulties; daily occupational therapy for core strengthening, sensory aversions and overall regulation; dietician oversight to monitor overall growth, weight trends and nutritional status; consultations with the psychology team to provide caregiver support and assist in the use of behavior modification strategies during therapies and meals; neuromuscular electrical stimulation treatments for swallowing dysfunction, when appropriate; caregiver education and training through observation of and direct participation in therapies, and structured meals; a discharge plan to help families successfully transition their child’s feeding plan to home practice; ;and finally telehealth services to assist with transition to home.   We have an inpatient feeding program, an inpatient infant feeding program, day feeding program and discharge f/u via telehealth.
